Matthew 16:13

Whom do men say that I the Son of Man am?

Jesus posed this question to His disciples about Himself about 2,000 years ago.

They answered according to

their knowledge.

Matthew 16:14

 And they said ,

Some say that You are John the Baptist :

 some, Elijah; and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.

People in Jesus’ day had their ideas of who they thought Jesus was.

Today it is the same.

People get their ideas of who they think Jesus is based on their experience.

They form ideas from movies, and television, from books and from friends.

Some have ideas from church or from other sources.

Some say Jesus was a just a great teacher, or that He was a good man.

But Jesus claimed to be equal with God, and someone who claims equality with God is not a

good man,

   but either a deceiver or a liar or He is who He says He is.

To people who have given their lives to Jesus and have experienced a new and wonderful life,

their is no question of His identity.

After finding out from the disciples what other people were saying,

Jesus turned to His disciples and said,

But whom say ye that I am?

Matthew 16:15

This is an important question – the most important question of life!

Matthew 16:16

And Simon Peter answered and said, 

You are the Christ,

the Son of the Living God.

Who revealed this to Peter?

**********

Matthew 16:17

And Jesus answered and said unto him,

Blessed art thou,

Simon Barjona:

for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee,

but my Father which is in heaven.

This truth is the very foundation of Christianity.

Jesus was not just another religious teacher or prophet.

Matthew 16:18

And I say unto thee,

Thou art Peter,

and upon this rock I will build my church;

and the gates of hell shall

N o t

P r e v a i l

A g a i n s t

I t.

The Foundation is Sure.

The Foundation is Safe.

The Foundation is Secure.

The Foundation is Immoveable.

The Foundation is Truth.

The foundation is J E S U S!

I Corinthians 3:11

 For no other Foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid,

which is

JESUS CHRIST.
