Keep Traveling Stranger

Greetings Family and Friend

Conference, in a word, was awesome! A lot of love, sacrifice, work, and prayer made it so. Special thanks to Reverend and Sister Kekel and all the brethren who labored to make this conference “the best one yet!” Two sisters told me that they had never been in a service like we had Wednesday night. I was also told that one sister thought the rapture was taking place. Another lady told of being healed of a nerve condition in her legs. Did I say it was awesome? A resounding yes to this question!

I’m glad that this present social system is not all there is, aren’t you? The horizon may seem dark and troubled, but in reality we are only strangers and pilgrims and our sojourn here is but for a short time.

Stranger: 1. Anyone who does not belong in the environment in which they are found; foreigner.

When we read about God’s heroes of the faith in Hebrews 11 we see these encouraging words:

“These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country…But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.” (Heb. 11:13, 14, 16)

Did the enemy of your soul ever whisper or scream in your heart, “you know you’ve been doing this christian thing for some years now and look at your life! What do you have to show for it??? You don’t have _________! Look at you! You’re missing out on___________. Why your sinner brother/sister has_______. You’re just a failure anyway! Why don’t you just forget it, throw your Bible in the trash and pursue a more lucrative vocation? Why you could _________, or you could__________!”

Or, maybe he isn’t that blatant: perhaps he’s more subtle than that. The fiery darts may be flying and the furnace may be turned up “seven times hotter”, but if you read Psalm 73, it really puts things into perspective.

When the focus is on one’s self, it is not on Christ. When the focus is blurred or completely taken from Jesus,
His promises are out of sight.

I recently read about Joseph in Psalm 105. His life always touches my heart, knowing the grievous trials he faced; but then we read of his ultimate triumph and exaltation!

“He sent a man before them, even Joseph, who was sold for a servant:
Whose feet thy hurt with fetters: he was laid in iron:
Until the time that his word came: the word of the LORD tried him.
The king sent and loosed him; even the ruler of the people, and let him go free.
He made him lord of his house, and ruler of all his substance:” (Psalm 105:17-21)

His adversity was great, yet he did not faint. I love Joseph’s life. Who doesn’t get encouraged by reading about God’s faithfulness to him and of his faithfulness to the Lord?

The trials we find ourselves in are all part of our spiritual growth. Ouch! I don’t claim to like trials and tests; especially, fiery, fierce, and grievous trials, but really they are part of our “growing in faith and in the knowledge of the Lord.” (2 Peter 3:18)

I don’t know about you, but I feel like we are in the wind-up; on the very threshold of the rapture of the church! I don’t want to get side tracked or waylaid in this late hour and miss it.

I am glad that we have so much consolation in the word of God. Our Lord WILL sustain us. He is always faithful.

Here are a few promises from God’s word that will buoy our confidence and faith:

Psalm 30:5 “…weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.”

I Peter 1:7 “That the trial of your faith, being more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:”

I Peter 4:12 “Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:”

I Peter 4:13 “But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.”

I Corinthians 10:13 “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.”

Hebrews 5:8 “Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;”

Hebrews 12:2 “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

Hebrews 12:3 “For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.”

Hebrews 12:4 “Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.”

I guess we could say to all these things, “Keep traveling stranger.” We only have a little longer to persevere, be it a day, a year, a decade or two, or more. It really won’t be much longer. Can you believe that it is almost May 2011? And you are how old? See what I mean? Time is marching on and it’s imperative that we keep looking to Jesus day by day, and moment by moment.

The Lord bless you till next time.

I hope you enjoy this spiritual, it has been a blessing to me.  It’s dated, it’s from an old LP, so I’ll post the words in case you can’t catch them all.
