IWO JIMA – 1945

Psalm 60:4

Thou hast given a banner

to them that fear thee,

that it may be displayed

because of the truth.

~On this day, February 23, in 1945, the Marines captured Mount

Suribachi,the highest point on the

island of Iwo Jima and an important defense position.

It was one of the costliest battles

of the Pacific campaign of World War II.

 Approximately 6,800 United States personnel

lost their lives in capturing the eight square miles of Iwo Jima.

Sometimes life gets confusing, and we get careless.

Our allegiance shifts to the world,

or self,

or even the enemy of our soul.

 If we continually experience defeat,

it may be because

the wrong standard is over us.

Isaiah 11:10-12

And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse,

which shall stand for an ensign of the people;

to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious.

And it shall come to pass in that day,

that the Lord shall set his hand again the second time

to recover the remnant of his people, which shall be left,

from Assyria, and from Egypt,

and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam,

and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea.

And he shall set up an ensign for the nations,

and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel,

and gather together the dispersed of Judah

from the four corners of the earth.

Isaiah identifies God’s banner of salvation as “the heir to David’s

throne,” Jesus Christ.  In the midst of life’s battles

we need to make sure we choose His banner to rally under.

Acts 16:30-31

”Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”

And they said,

“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ,

and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.”

Romans 10:8-13

But what saith it?

The word is nigh thee,

even in thy mouth,

and in thy heart:

that is,

the word of faith, which we preach;

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth

the Lord Jesus,

and shalt believe in thine heart

that God hath raised Him from the dead,

thou shalt be saved.

For with the heart man believeth unto

and with the mouth confession is made unto

For the scripture saith,

believeth on Him

shall not be ashamed.

For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek:

for the same Lord over

is rich unto

that call upon Him.

For whosoever shall CALL upon the NAME of the Lord

The plan of salvation is simple.

Believe that the Lord Jesus Christ,

died for your sins and rose again from the dead.

Ask Him to forgive you of your sins.

Invite Him into your heart to be the Savior of your soul.

When you’re crying yourself to sleep,

know that Jesus is lending His shoulder to you.

When you’re pushed to the ground,

know that Jesus is holding out His hands to you.

When you feel like dying,

know that Jesus died to let you live.

When you feel like no one loves you,

know that Jesus loves you more than you can imagine.
