Archive for the ‘Messianic Prophecies of Christ’s First Coming – 2’ Category

The Messianic prophecies were written

over the span of a millennium

by several Old Testament Prophets.

 They spoke of a Messiah

who would one day come to earth

and walk among mankind.

 These prophecies mentioned

specific names,

and even the timing

surrounding  His appearance

The Prophecy

Genesis 12:1-3

Now the Lord had said unto Abram,

Get thee out of thy country,

and from thy kindred,

and from thy father’s house,

unto a land that I will shew thee:

And I will make of thee a great nation,

and I will bless thee,

and make thy name great;

and thou shalt be a blessing:

And I will bless them that bless thee,

and curse him that curseth thee:

and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

The Fulfillment of Prophecy

Matthew 1:1

The book of the generation of Jesus Christ,

the son of David,

the son of Abraham.

Galatians 3:16

Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made.

 He saith not,

And to seeds, as of many;

but as of One,

And to Thy Seed,

which is Christ.

Messiah Was to Come From the Tribe of Judah

The Prophecy

Genesis 49:10

The sceptre shall not depart from Judah,

nor a lawgiver from between his feet,

until Shiloh come;

and unto Him

shall the gathering of the people be.

The Fulfillment

Luke 3:23;33; Hebrews 7:14

23 And Jesus Himself began to be about thirty years of age,

being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph,

which was the son of Heli.

33 Which was the son of Aminadab,

which was the son of Aram,

which was the son of Esrom,

which was the son of Phares,

which was the son of Juda.

Hebrews 7:14

For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda;

The prophecies referring to the Messianic lineage

are very exciting once we see their historical importance.

 For centuries the ancient Jews kept meticulous records of their genealogies.

 These records existed even during times of foreign captivity

and terrible persecution.

Both Luke and Matthew were able to give a detailed lineage of Jesus

to show He was a descendant of the required ancestors.

 Matthew lists the lineage of Joseph

while Luke lists the lineage of Mary.

The Temple and the records were destroyed in 70 A.D.

Thus Jesus the Messiah was born before this time.

 His birth was at the perfect time.

We read in Gal. 4:4 – But when the fulness of the time was come,

God sent forth His Son,

made of a woman…

Biblical Prophecy is history written in advance.

It is authentic evidence to validate the

Bible’s claims of Divine inspiration.

Bethlehem was so insignificant

in size and population.

It seems that God loves to do His

great miracles and wonders

among weak and insignificant things;

even people.

It Was Prophesied that Messiah Would be Born in Bethlehem

The Prophecy

Micah 5:2

But thou,

Bethlehem Ephratah,

though thou be little among the thousands of Judah,

yet out of thee shall He come forth unto Me

that is to be Ruler in Israel;

Whose goings forth have been from of old,

from everlasting.

 Luke 2:4-7

And Joseph also went up from Galilee,

out of the city of Nazareth,

into Judaea,

unto the city of David,

which is called Bethlehem;

(because he was of the house and lineage of David:)

To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife,

being great with Child.

And so it was, that,

while they were there,

the days were accomplished

that she should be delivered.

And she brought forth her firstborn Son,

and wrapped Him in swaddling clothes,

and laid Him in a manger;

because there was no room for them

in the inn.
