In honor of John Chapman, who died in March 1845,

we know March 11 as “Johnny Appleseed Day.”

Although “Johnny Appleseed” is known primarily

as a folk hero in novels, stories and poems,

Chapman was a dedicated nurseryman.

He helped pave the way for nineteenth-century pioneers

by planting a series of apple nurseries

from the Allegheny Mountains to Ohio and beyond.

Jesus commented about fruit trees

when He was teaching a crowd on a mountainside.

He said that a good tree  doesn’t produce bad fruit,

and a bad tree doesn’t produce good fruit.

The way we identify a tree or a person

is by the kind of fruit produced:

A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit,

neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit

is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

Matthew 7:18-20

The plan of salvation is simple.

 Believe that the Lord Jesus Christ,

died for your sins and rose again from the dead.

 Ask Him to forgive you of your sins.

 Invite Him into your heart to be the Savior of your soul.

When you’re crying yourself to sleep,

know that Jesus is lending His shoulder to you.

When you’re pushed to the ground,

know that Jesus is holding out His hands to you.

When you feel like dying,

know that Jesus died to let you live.

When you feel like no one loves you,

know that Jesus loves you more than you can imagine.
