John 3:30

He must increase, but I must decrease.

Henceforth

O the bitter shame and sorrow,
That a time could ever be,
When I let the Savior’s pity
Plead in vain, and proudly answered,
All of self, and none of Thee!

Yet He found me; I beheld Him
Bleeding on th’accursèd tree,
Heard Him pray, Forgive them, Father!
And my wistful heart said faintly,
Some of self, and some of Thee!

Day by day His tender mercy,
Healing, helping, full and free,
Sweet and strong, and ah! so patient,
Brought me lower, while I whispered,
Less of self, and more of Thee!

Higher than the highest heavens,
Deeper than the deepest sea,
Lord, Thy love at last hath conquered:
Grant me now my supplication,
None of self, and all of Thee!

Translated from the French of

Theodore Monod

This is a beautiful song, but he only made it to the third verse of Theodore Monod’s poem.

Hmm think about it.

And that He died for all,

that they which live

should not henceforth live unto themselves,

but unto Him which died for them, and rose again.

Galatians 2:20

I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life

which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave

Himself for me.

If I look at myself I can become depressed.  But if I look at Jesus I am encouraged because as long as my eyes are on Him and His finished work:

I can do ALL things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
