Messianic Prophecies

Jesus’ Coming was Announced by a Forerunner;

John the Baptist

Isaiah 40:3

The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness,

Prepare ye the way of the LORD,

make straight in the desert a highway for our God.

Matthew 3:1; 3

In those days came John the Baptist,

preaching

in the wilderness of Judaea.

For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias,

saying,

The voice of one crying in the wilderness.

PREPARE YE THE WAY OF THE LORD, MAKE HIS PATHS STRAIGHT.

In ancient times whenever a monarch

set out on a journey through the

desert and unknown countries,

they would send a forerunner

in advance of their party to make the

 king’s approach known.

He was a herald sent to prepare lodging

and to clear the way

 before the king.

The King of all Kings was coming to His people

Israel and John the Baptist

was preparing the way before Him

with his preaching.

Jesus’

birth,

life,

death

and resurrection

is the greatest event

that has happened in all of

 history.

Everything small and great pivots on this infallible fact.

 History itself is

divided into two parts –

B.C. – all that happened Before Christ

and A.D. meaning AnnoDomini,

(Latin for “Year of Our Lord”),

which speaks of everything that has happened

 since His coming.

Jesus isn’t just great.

He is the Greatest!

He is the Superlative of every virtue and

excellence.

There never has been a God like our God!

All human speech is inadequate

 to describe Who He is

or to express

His infinite power and greatness!

Even though the wise men didn’t arrive at His birth

as depicted in this video,

it nevertheless makes a composite of the two blessed events – the

coming of the shepherds and the Magi,

into one picture.

The events are not the same,

but the expressions of awe

as seen in their faces at seeing

the Messiah make the point.

Messianic prophecy is given in the Old Testament

and fulfilled in the New Testament.

These prophecies were written in the Bible by forty authors,

under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit,

in numerous books of the Bible over a millenium.

Jesus Was Born of a Virgin

The coming of the Messiah was first announced

in Genesis 3:15 when God said He would be the

“Seed of the woman” and would crush the power of the devil:

“And I will put enmity between Thee and the woman,

and between Thy seed and her Seed;

It shall bruise thy head,

and thou shalt bruise His heel.”

God, speaking through the prophet Isaiah – 7:14,

again foretold the Messiah’s coming as both

“God With Us” and a “Sign”

through the woman, and that she would be a “virgin”:

“Therefore the Lord Himself shall give you a sign;

Behold,

a virgin shall conceive,

and bear a son,

and shall call his name Immanuel.”

Matthew 1:21-23

In the book of Matthew we see

that Mary fulfilled the prophecies

and gave birth to Him Who is

God manifest in the flesh:

“And she shall bring forth a son,

and thou shalt call his name Jesus:

for He shall save his people from their sins.

Now all this was done,

that it might be fulfilled

which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet,

saying,

Behold,

a virgin shall be with child,

and shall bring forth a son,

and they shall call his name Emmanuel,

which being interpreted is,

God With Us.”

(Fulfillment of Prophecy)
