A Necessary Solitude

MATTHEW 6:6

But thou,

when thou prayest,

enter into thy closet,

and when thou hast shut thy door,

pray to thy Father which is in secret;

and thy Father which seeth in secret

shall reward thee openly.

Someone Shared:

Spending Time With God

When I promised God that I would try to spend at least an hour a day with Him, if I had

stopped to try to find an additional hour in my day, I probably would have given up

before I got started. My intentions were sincere, it was all or nothing at this point–but

living them out was another issue. At that particular time in my life, I was working

between 60 to 80 hours a week. . . plus I had family obligations, friends to spend time

with, a tennis game to keep up, and down time for myself. . . finding an additional hour

a day was nearly impossible! It quickly became evident, that if I didn’t set aside a

specific block of time each day, this new endeavor was not going to be.

I found it was best to have my time with God at the beginning of each day when nothing

would interrupt it — no phone calls, no salespeople, no late appointments. That meant I

had to get up at 5:30AM. The first couple of mornings went without a glitch. . .

The alarm clock went off. . .

I popped out of bed. . .

made some coffee (ok, strong coffee). . .

and had my time with God.

But, after all of 3 mornings, I found myself hitting the snooze button on my alarm

instead of eagerly jumping out of bed. Being a notorious “snooze button” hitter, an hour

elapsed before I finally pulled myself out of bed. There was no time for God. Refusing to

give in to failure so quickly, a radical rearrangement of my schedule was needed. To be

out of bed by 5:30AM, meant getting into bed no later than 10:30PM.

Early morning proved to be a good time to meet with God and after a couple of months

of this routine, the habit was formed. For years I have continued to keep an appointment

with God early each morning. I am still convinced of 2 things: 1) I desperately still need

time with my Heavenly Father, and 2) If I don’t set aside a chunk of time in advance, I

don’t spend any time with God during the day.

A Friend Has Her Time With God

at Night When everyone has retired:

It’s Quiet

No Demands

While no one is saying , “Thou shalt spend 30 minutes or 1 hour, or 3 hours, as the

amount of legislated time spent in prayer.  May I humbly suggest:

1 Thessalonians 5:17

Pray without ceasing.

This week on my blog I received 83 views from

Pakistan.  Last year I had 111 countries who

visited this blog.  It’s unlikely that I’ll visit these

countries, some I never heard of , but I can share

God’s wonderful plan of salvation:

Acts 16:30-31

”Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”

And they said,

“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ,

and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.”

Romans 10:8-13

But what saith it?

The word is nigh thee,

even in thy mouth,

and in thy heart:

that is,

the word of faith, which we preach;

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth

the Lord Jesus,

and shalt believe in thine heart

that God hath raised Him from the dead,

thou shalt be saved.

For with the heart man believeth unto

righteousness;

and with the mouth confession is made unto

salvation.

For the scripture saith,

Whosoever

believeth on Him

shall not be ashamed.

For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek:

for the same Lord over

ALL

is rich unto

ALL

that call upon Him.

For whosoever shall CALL upon the NAME of the Lord

SHALL BE SAVED.

**********

The plan of salvation is simple.

Believe that the Lord Jesus Christ,

died for your sins and rose again from the dead.

Ask Him to forgive you of your sins.

Invite Him into your heart to be the Savior of your soul.

**********

When you’re crying yourself to sleep,

know that Jesus is lending His shoulder to you.

When you’re pushed to the ground,

know that Jesus is holding out His hands to you.

When you feel like dying,

know that Jesus died to let you live.

When you feel like no one loves you,

know that Jesus loves you more than you can imagine.
