I Family and Friends,

This is a post I made for the 4th of July in 2011 and thought I would share it again.

Greetings Family and Friends from  the beautiful Southwest section of this dear land,

Happy Fourth of July!

My heart has been touched since we have been here at the KOA  Campground in Albuquerque,

as families have gathered together, I assume, for the holiday.   I could hear children playing

outside and it was music to my ears. It seems that children seldom are seen outdoors in this

age of high tech toys and gadgets.   Someone was grilling and the aroma that wafted to my

nostrils was that of burgers, Yum!  Before we left for Sunday evening service, I could hear the

fireworks.  Upon returning home, we were greeted in the park, near the motorhome, with

children and adults alike milling around with colorful glow-in-the-dark bands (looked like

bendable rope).  One boy was waving it around.   Other folks had it on their heads like a halo

and some had it on their arms.  It seemed they were enjoying themselves.  Sooooo Americana!

 I thought it was sweet.

I’m thankful to have been born in this great country.  Thank you Lord for the freedom to

worship You, and the liberty to go to church whenever  I want to.  There are no padlocks on

the door when it’s church time, no fear of being imprisoned when I attend.  Our pastors have

the privilege to preach the glad tidings that Jesus Saves!  The Good News can flow freely  from

pulpits across America, by radio, television, internet , or by other means.  Thank you Heavenly

Father, Son, and Precious Holy Spirit for this privilege. Thank you Lord for all who  have paid

the ultimate price, starting with the Founding Fathers, and for all who have given their lives

throughout our history as a nation until this present time.

The Declaration of Independence states:

“And for support of this  Declaration, with a firm reliance on Divine Providence we mutually

pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor.”  Thomas Jefferson

I especially like what John Adams had to say about the Fourth of July. No other family has had

a longer legacy of celebrating the Fourth of July than the Adams family. From 1776 to 1892, the

Adams family had been involved in a myriad of Independence Day activities. John Adams

(1735-1826) was instrumental in negotiating in favor of independence at the Continental

Congresses (1774-78), signed the Declaration of Independence.

John Adams’ famous letter of July 3, 1776, in which he wrote to his wife Abigail what his

thoughts were about celebrating the Fourth of July is found on various web sites but is usually

incorrectly quoted. Following is the exact text from his letter with his original spellings:

The Second Day of July 1776, will be the most memorable Epocha, in the History of

America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as

the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of

Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized

with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and

Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward

forever more. You will think me transported with Enthusiasm but I am not. I am

well aware of the Toil and Blood and Treasure, that it will cost Us to maintain this

Declaration, and support and defend these States. Yet through all the Gloom I can

see the Rays of ravishing Light and Glory. I can see that the End is more than worth

all the Means. And that Posterity will tryumph in that Days Transaction, even altho

We should rue it, which I trust in God We shall not. (The Book of Abigail and John:

Selected Letters of the Adams Family, 1762-1784, Harvard University Press, 1975,

142).      Researched  by James R. Heintze.

God’s people are longing for a revival, or an awakening, in this beautiful land where

God has has abundantly blessed us. Many Christians long for Jesus and for His

righteousness to rule in our country.  They, as did David, see the foundation being

destroyed and wonder what they can do about it.

David lamented this in Psalm 11:3 when he cried, “If the foundations be destroyed,

what can the righteous do?” Christians know that: Righteousness exalteth a nation;

but sin is a reproach to any people,”  Proverbs  14:34 .  What America was and what

it is now, seem poles apart.

O God!  As a country, help us to go back to our righteous roots.

Let our streets be safe for our children and elderly folk; the weakest in our midst.

Cause our young and old people alike to seek you while You may be found.

Fill the vacuum in everyone that does not know you.

Start  revival with the ministers that preach in pulpits across America.  Let it spill

over to their congregations.  May congregations in turn take it home.

Let moms and dads fall in love again, and show Christ to their children and families.

Heal dysfunctional families Lord.  You are a Father to the fatherless, and a husband

to the widow.

Bless those that lead our country, in every sector, that they may know You and lead

this great country in righteousness.

Let rich and poor, literate and illiterate; every soul that breathes, meet you Lord

Jesus, at the foot of the cross.

II Chronicles 7:14  “If my people which are called by name, shall humble themselves

and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from

heaven, and forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

Then cause that revival and awakening to spread to the islands of the sea, and to all

the peoples of this earth that you created for Your glory.

Do it again dear Lord!  Rend the heavens and come down!!!

We need you so!  We need you!  I personally need you.

Let revival start in me O Lord. Let revival break out as in days gone by in this land.

Glorify your name in us, your faithful children, in the name of your Son, Jesus

I want to close with another patriotic song,  America the Beautiful,  that our class

sang in grade school.

Thank you for stopping by and please pray for America the Beautiful and a National Spiritual Awakening.
